MEFLIX PLUS

(MEFENAMIC ACID 500mg & PARACETAMOL 325mg TABLETS)

Mefenamic acid belongs to a group non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by blocking the action of a substance in the body called cyclo-oxygenase. Cyclo-oxygenase is an enzyme that is involved in the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are produced in response to injury or certain diseases and cause pain, swelling and inflammation. As mefenamic acid stops the production of prostaglandins, it is effective at relieving pain and inflammation. Mefenamic acid may also work by preventing the action of prostaglandins after they have already been formed.

All the medicines in this group reduce inflammation caused by the body's own immune system and are effective pain killers. Mefenamic acid is particularly useful for heavy and painful menstrual periods, in addition to its general painkilling properties. This is because prostaglandins are partly responsible for this type of pain. MEFLIX PLUS has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic properties. The pharmacological activity of MEFLIX PLUS may be due in part to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins. MEFLIX PLUS also inhibits the action of exogenous prostaglandins on uterine muscle, uterine tube contraction and ovarian cyclic AMP and progesterone formation. MEFLIX PLUS is indicated in the symptomatic treatment of post traumatic conditions such as pain, swelling and inflammation. MEFLIX PLUS is indicated in the symptomatic treatment of primary dysmenorrhoea for a maximum period of 3 days. For the relief of mild to moderate pain in acute and chronic conditions including pain of traumatic, arthritic or muscular origin; primary dysmenorrhoea, headache and dental pain Viral fever. It is also indicated as an anti-pyretic in febrile conditions.

Paracetamol :

The antipyretic effect of Paracetamol is attributed to its ability to inhibit COX in the brain where peroxide tone is low. Recent evidence suggests inhibition of COX-3 could represent a primary central mechanism by which Paracetamol decreases pain and fever. Paracetamol and mefenamic acid have a synegestic effect which brings down pain and fever immediately.

INDICATIONS :

MEFLIX-PLUS is indicated for prompt relief of pain in acute musculo-skeletal disorders such as bursitis, tendonitis, tenosynovitis, sprains, muscular tears and periarticular lesions. It is also indicated in the treatment of sports injuries and low backache and in joint disorders such as osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). MEFLIX-PLUS is indicated in treatment of headache, migraine and dental pain.

DOSAGE :

Adults : 1 MEFLIX-PLUS tablet Twice or thrice daily, or as prescribed; Therapy should not exceed one week.
